When Shadow and Act last covered LeVar Burton, we discussed how the famed Roots actor and Reading Rainbow host was set to have his own Masterclass on the power of storytelling. This week, Burton is slated to embark on what could hopefully be a long-running endeavor.

The actor is slated to host the iconic game show Jeopardy! this week from July 26 to 30. Many on social have called for Burton to be the host. Burton’s frontrunner status as Jeopardy! host reached fever pitch with a Change.org petition that garnered over 300,000 signatures.

In the interview with The New York Times Magazine, Burton admitted he would love to be Alex Trebek’s successor on Jeopsrdy!

“There’s something inside me that says this makes sense. I feel like this is what I’m supposed to do,” Burton said. “Jeopardy! is a cultural touchstone and for a Black man to occupy that podium is significant.”

Burton also admitted he would be cursed to be passed over for the hosting gig.

“It will hurt. I’m not going to lie. But if that happens, I will get over it,” he said. “I will be fine. Remember: Everything happens perfectly and for a reason. That is my default. It’s all going to be OK. Because it always is.”

Tune in to Burton all week on Jeopardy! No word yet on when an official host will be named.
