Anika Noni Rose is best known for roles on television shows such as The Quad and Power, as well as her role as Princess Tiana in the Disney animated film The Princess and the Frog. Now, the Tony Award-winning actress is taking on the horror genre.

In an exclusive report from Deadline, Rose is slated to star in the horror film Limbo, which will be directed by Chris Peckover, who co-wrote the script with Matthew Jennison

Rose will portray a woman whose body becomes possessed by an evil supernatural entity. In the process, Rose’s character becomes a disembodied ghost in her own home and must find a way to protect her family as the demonic entity threatens them with harm.

Limbo, which marks Rose’s first lead role in the supernatural horror genre, will tackle the theme of grief.

“As an American culture, we don’t deal with grief. When something hits us that’s huge and insurmountable, we don’t always know how to move through that and take our family with us instead of becoming an island of pain,” Rose told Deadline. “Many of us in the country right now are experiencing extreme grief and loss. There are many of us in the country that are grieving who we thought we were as a country and Americans. We are watching horror every single day on the news and we are wondering how do we deal with that, process it, make it better and connect?”

The project will go into production in January from Miramax, Barnyard Projects and Snoot Entertainment.
