Lisa Bonet returns to the small screen for a 4-episode arc on the new Sundance Channel drama series The Red Road.

Tamara Tunie, along with Bonet’s real-life husband, Jason Momoa, as well as Martin HendersonJulianne NicholsonAnnalise BassoAllie GoninoKiowa Gordon and Tom Sizemore all star in the original scripted drama described that revolves around a local cop (Henderson) struggling to keep his family together while simultaneously policing two clashing communities: the small town where he grew up and the neighboring mountains, home of a Native American tribe. After a terrible tragedy and cover-up occurs involving the cop’s wife (Nicholson), an unholy alliance is forged between the cop and Phillip Kopus (Momoa), a member of the tribe, fresh out of prison, who will come back to haunt all involved.

Bonet will play a character namd Sky Van Der Veen, a lawyer who represents the tribe.

Tunie, a series regular, plays a character named Marie, although no word yet on how exactly she figures into the overall narrative.

First announced over the summer, The Red Road was picked up for six one-hour episodes and hails from acclaimed writer Aaron Guzikowski (ContrabandPrisoners) and veteran producer Sarah Condon. The series is executive produced by Guzikowski and Condon, and Bridget Carpenter serves as executive producer and showrunner. 

Award winning director James Gray (The ImmigrantTwo LoversWe Own The Night) directed the first episode. 

The Red Road is Sundance Channel’s second wholly-owned original scripted series; its first was the acclaimed Rectify, which returns for a second season in 2014.

Production will begin in Atlanta on August 19th. Look for the series to premiere in 2014.
