The View‘s Whoopi Goldberg channeled much of the country’s frustration and fear as she talked about the Supreme Court’s draft opinion on Roe v. Wade. The opinion, which was leaked to the public, suggested that the court would deem the ruling that makes access to abortion legal unconstitutional.

Goldberg was on the edge of tears as she passionately explained why she wants the court to preserve women’s rights to their bodies.

"Women in this country lived forever with it being illegal, okay? Women when they decided that something is not right for them, they're going to take it into their own hands," she said.

“Well, we got tired of tripping over women in bathrooms, public bathrooms, who were giving themselves abortions because there was nowhere safe, nowhere clean, nowhere to go. This law came about because people wanted people to have somewhere safe and somewhere clean. It has nothing to do with your religion. This is not a religious issue.”

'The View's audience applauded Goldberg as she continued:

“If you care about me as a human being, you should know three things: Getting an abortion is not easy. Making that decision is not easy. It’s not something people do lightly, it’s not something you can just do.”

“It’s a hard, awful decision that people make,” she said. “And if you don’t have the wherewithal to understand that, to start this conversation with ‘I know how hard this must be for you,’ if you’re starting it by telling me Im gonna burn in hell, then you’re not looking out for me as a human being, whether I describe to your religion or not.”

Goldberg captured the mood on Twitter, which is quite dire.

Also, with protests happening at the Supreme Court steps and around D.C. (and possibly the country), Goldberg’s fervor on The View is on par for the course with people who want the Supreme Court to come through for human rights.
