Power Book III: Raising Kanan and Greenleaf star Lovie Simone has joined the cast of Apple TV+’s Manhunt, a new limited series created by Emmy, Golden Globe, PGA, and WGA-nominated writer/producer Monica Beletsky.

The series is based on the book by James Swanson, which documents the events surrounding the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln at the hands of John Wilkes Booth.

Part-historical fiction, part-conspiracy thriller, Manhunt will take audiences into the aftermath of the first American Presidential assassination and the fight to preserve and protect the ideals that were the foundation of Lincoln’s Reconstruction plans–issues that reverberate into the present day.

The series features historical figures whose lives intertwined with the escape, manhunt, and subsequent high-crimes investigation. The series is the first to materialize from Beletsky’s overall deal with Apple TV+.

Simone will star as Mary Simms, a formerly enslaved woman who treated John Wilkes Booth’s injury and provided safety after his crime. Aside from Simone, the series will also star Anthony Boyle and Tobias Menzies.

Manhunt is produced for Apple TV+ by Apple Studios, and co-produced by Lionsgate. Swanson will also executive produce alongside Layne Eskridge.
