Marvel has announced that iconic actress Lucy Liu is taking her talents behind the camera and directing an episode of Marvel’s Luke Cage, specifically the Season 2 premiere.

Aside from her extensive credits in acting, she’s also a producer and director, most recently directing multiple episodes of CBS’s Elementary, in which she currently stars.

“Lucy and I have been tight since our Southland days and she’s a welcome addition to our Luke Cage family. She brings the same buoyant intensity, deft humor, and singular focus to her directing that she has always brought to her acting….not to mention the fact that the former ‘O’Ren Ishii’ certainly knows her way around an action sequence,” said series executive producer and showrunner, Cheo Hodari Coker.

“What a thrill to collaborate with Marvel and Netflix, two industry titans, who paint our world with inspiring stories and beguiling characters. It is such an honor to work with such a passionate and fearless team,” said Liu.

Marvel’s Luke Cage stars Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, Theo Rossi as Shades, Mustafa Shakir as John McIver and Gabrielle Dennis as Tilda Johnson.

The show is executive produced by Cheo Hodari Coker (Ray Donovan, Southland) and Aïda Croal (The Returned, True Blood) as co-executive producer, along with Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Punisher, Marvel’s Inhumans), and Jim Chory (Marvel’s Punisher, Marvel’s Inhumans).
