Mustafa Shakir is one of the stars of the upcoming live-action Cowboy Bebop series at Netflix. It is based on the anime series of the same name.

He joins fellow stars John Cho as lead character Spike Spiegel, Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine, and Alex Hassell as Vicious.

Shakir’s character is Jet Black, described as “one of the few honest cops in the solar system before an ultimate betrayal robbed him of all that he loved, forcing him into a vagabond life of hunting bounties to put food on the table.” He is an “inveterate Jazz enthusiast” and the Captain of the Bebop.

The official description for the series: Cowboy Bebop is the jazz-inspired, genre-bending story of Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, Faye Valentine and Radical Ed: a rag-tag crew of bounty hunters on the run from their pasts as they hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals. They’ll even save the world… for the right price.

No word on when the series is set to air. Shakir was last seen in season 2 of Netflix’s Luke Cage. He can also be seen on HBO’s The Deuce.
