Lupita Nyong’o is starring opposite Natalie Portman in the Apple TV+ limited series adaptation of Lady in the Lake, based on the novel by Laura Lipman. According to Variety, the series will be directed by Alma Har’el. Har’el will also write the pilot and co-write the series with Dre Ryan. Ha’rel and Ryan will executive produce.

The series will follow Maddie Schwartz (Portman), a housewife and mother living in Baltimore in the 1960s. An unsolved murder leads to becoming an investigative journalist. On her path toward a new life, she comes across Cleo Sherwood (Nyong’o), who is trying to balance a multi-hyphenate career, motherhood, and her sociopolitical goals of fighting for Black progressivism in Baltimore.

Nyong’o and Portman will also serve as executive producers as well as the series’ stars. Shopie Mas, Portman’s producing partner, is also executive producing with Lipman and Jean-Marc Vallée and Nathan Ross of Crazyrose. Bad Wolf America’s Julie Gardner will also executive produce.
