Taylour Paige has landed one of the lead roles opposite Viola Davis in Netflix’s August Wilson adaptation, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Dusan Brown has also been cast. They join Chadwick Boseman, Glynn Turman and Colman Domingo.

Paige will play Ma Rainey’s lover, Dussie Mae, and Brown will play her nephew, Sylvester.

Denzel Washington (who starred with Davis in the film adaptation of Wilson’s Fences) is producing. George C. Wolfe is the director and Ruben Santiago-Hudson will be adapting it for the big screen.

The logline: When Ma Rainey, the “Queen of the Blues,” makes a record in a studio in Chicago, 1927, tensions boil between her, her white agent and producer, and bandmates.

This will be the most sizeable film role for Brown, who is primarily a voice actor on multiple children’s shows. Paige, most known for her role in VH1’s Hit the Floor, was last seen in White Boy Rick and toplines the upcoming Zola film from A24.
