Mariah Carey has signed a three-picture deal with the Hallmark Channel to develop, executive produce, and star in original films for the network. Her deal also includes mention that she will compose original songs for each film that she stars in as well.

Carey made her directorial debut behind the camera with Hallmark’s original film “A Christmas Melody”… which leads me to admit that I just can’t buy Carey as a film director. Seriously? Does she have the chops to actually direct a film? What did she wear on the set? That dress above for example? Did she show up on time on the set every day with a shot list? Why do I get the feeling that her assistant directors did most of the work and Carey just took a “Directed by…” credit?

But despite my misgivings, Hallmark loves working with Carey, and she was responsible, after all, for Hallmark’s most watched holiday special, “Mariah Carey’s Merriest Christmas”.

According to Michelle Vicary, the executive vice president of Programming: “We are honored to continue our collaboration with the multi-talented Mariah Carey. It’s rare to work with a talent who can produce, direct, star and also compose original music for a project, and we know she will deliver for our viewers once again.”

On top of all this, there’s also Carey’s new E! network reality series titled “Mariah’s World” which is premiering this this summer.
