XLrator Media has announced that it will release Mario Van Peebles' We The Party on VOD on July 19, and on DVD and Blu-ray on July 31.
As a recap… Shot summer 2010, and described as a cutting edge hip-hop-infused dramedy about the first generation of high schoolers to come of age during the Obama years, We The Party (not to be confused with We The Peeples) was directed by Mr Van Peebles (who also co-stars in it), with an ensemble cast that includes Michael Jai White, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Snoop Dogg, Melvin Van Peebles, Tiny Lister and several other actors and musicians.
The film follows five friends as they deal with romance, money, prom, college, sex, bullies, fitting and and finding themselves; it also features some of the latest teenage bands and dance crews.
Bonus features on the disks will include:
– A feature-length commentary track by Van Peebles and his sons, Mandela and Makayla Van Peebles, who star in the film.
– Four music videos from the movie.
The film was released in theaters in April, but I couldn't find any box office figures.
