Finally, Marvel Studios is breaking its LGBTQ barrier by declaring Valkyrie officially bisexual.

The character, portrayed by Tessa Thompson in Thor: Ragnarok, has been long bisexual in the comic books. But that aspect of the character had yet to appear in the films. Times have changed, though; as of Comic-Con weekend, Marvel’s Kevin Feige confirmed to Gizmodo that, “The answer is yes,” Valkyrie would have a storyline involving being LGBTQ.

“How that impacts the story remains to be seen with that level of representation you’ll see across our films, not just in ‘Thor 4,’ he said to the outlet.

The comments come after Thompson herself announced her character’s sexuality at Comic-Con during Marvel’s Hall H presentation.

“As new king [of Asgard], she needs to find her queen,” she said, prompting the crowd to burst into shouts and applause. “That will be her first order of business,” she continued. “She has some ideas. Keep you posted.”

If Valkyrie’s storyline does indeed involve love, we will see it play out in the fourth Thor movie, Thor: Love and Thunder. The film will be directed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi and will also star ChrisHemsworth and Natalie Portman. The film will come to theaters in 2021.
