BlackPanther

Ryan Coogler’s much-anticipated “Black Panther” movie is still 2 years away from its release, but Marvel wants to make sure that audiences (especially those who aren’t familiar enough with the character and his universe) are properly versed before February 2018.

To that end, the studio has launched a new video series featuring Atlantic columnist Ta-Nehisi Coates, author of the rebooted Black Panther comic book series (the first issue was released last month), breaking down the African superhero’s world for the uninitiated.

The first episode, debuting today, gives audiences some basic background on Black Panther, aka T’Challa’s home, the fictional African nation of Wakanda, and the dual lives the character lives – as a super-scientist and a superhero.

Future installments are expected to go further in-depth, setting up audiences for what’s to come in Coates’ comic book series, as well as Black Panther’s first appearance in Marvel’s cinematic universe, in “Captain America: Civil War” (which opens this weekend; with Chadwick Boseman)as Black Panther), and, eventually, what I think we’re all really waiting for, Coogler’s film which will also star Boseman.

The marketing push continues with the first and second episodes of the video series overview, starring Coates. Watch both below:
