With the critical and commercial success of the FX period drama Pose, trans representation is steadily improving and making its impact on mainstream media. Now, it appears that we could be seeing Marvel's first transgender superhero soon!
Geeks Worldwide has reported that Marvel Studios put out a casting call for the character of Jessica, a role calling for "transgender actresses only."
The site is also reporting that the character is slated to appear in an upcoming Marvel Studios property slated to begin filming in 2020, which leads people to believe that the role could be for Thor: Love and Thunder, and that the role could be for Sera, who is said to be Marvel's "only exisitng transwoman superhero."
GWW's report continues, "In the comics, Sera is an Anchorite, a small group of male, wingless Angels who were kept inside a temple in Heven, the Tenth Realm. Sera was the only one of the Anchorites who identified as a woman, thus being the first and, so far, only major transwoman in Marvel comics. She was kept inside the temple until she met Angela, Thor’s long-lost half-sister, and helped her defeat a monster. For her help, Angela freed Sera and they stuck together through many adventures across the Nine Realms, eventually becoming lovers." If she appears in the next Thor, could this be the queen that Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie is looking for?
The role of Jessica from the casting call is reportedly described as a transwoman in her 20s and 30s of any ethnicity. The inclusion of a major trans character in the MCU would mark excellent timing, especially with the ongoing rise of transgender actresses such as MJ Rodriguez, Indya Moore and Angelica Ross, who has hinted at her inclusion in the MCU family on Twitter.

Hopefully, more information about the possibility of a transgender character joining the MCU will be announced soon.
