MasterChef Junior standout Ben Watkins has been diagnosed with angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma, a rare tumor that can affect younger people, including children. According to E!Online, Watkins’ family members have announced he is one of only six people worldwide to be diagnosed with the illness.

Watkins’ uncle and grandmother have established a GoFundMe to help with Watkins’ hospital costs. He is currently being treated at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

Sadly, this is the latest horror Watkins has faced in his young life. In 2017, Watkins lost his parents, Leila Edwards and Mike Watkins, in a murder-suicide. The tragedy led fans to develop a trust fund for Watkins called the #Love4Ben campaign, raising almost $30,000.

“Despite all of Ben’s trials and tribulations, he remains positive and looks forward to getting back in the kitchen and pursuing his dream to become an Engineer,” states the GoFundMe. “…We want Ben to be able to continue his education in the culinary arts and/or Engineering wherever he wants to in the world.”
