UPDATE: A new teaser has surfaced and is embedded below…
I’m watching the live-stream of a panel at the "Star Wars Celebration" gathering, which is taking place in Anaheim, CA, featuring writer/director/producer J.J. Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy. And during the conversation, Abrams revealed that the upcoming movie’s 3 leads are Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. I grabbed the above image from the YouTube live-stream, which filled the stage screen when Abrams revealed the news.
This is obviously great for Boyega, and for his fans; and I’m glad that he’s not just an aside. He’s actually going to be quite involved in the movie’s overall narrative.
Abrams then introduced the three actors, who joined him and Kennedy on the stage, to the thrill of the attending audience, and asked each of them to speak briefly about the characters they play. We already know that Boyega’s character is named Finn; and still not revealing much, the actor added that, at the beginning of the film, he’s character is in "incredible danger," and how he chooses to reach to that danger, changes the course of his life, and launches him into the "Star Wars" universe in "a very unique way," he shared. Oscar Isaac then added that his character and Boyega’s eventually run into each other, and team up, while Isaac’s character is on a mission. I believe his exact words were, "their fates [his characters and Boyega’s] will become forever intertwined."
We’re all expecting that a teaser for the movie will be shown, but nothing yet. The live streaming began at 10 am PST, and, as of the time of this post, we’re about 45 minutes into it. It’s likely ending at 11am PST.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will be out this December. By the way, Lupita Nyong’o’s name is mentioned as part of the cast, but they don’t share anything about the character she plays.
First, here’s the new teaser (the panel footage is underneath):
