Although the specifics are unknown, attorneys representing the label issued a statement on Thursday saying that Megan and Carl Crawford, her former label’s president, have decided to “amicably part ways,” Billboard reported.

“Both Megan and 1501 are pleased to put this matter behind them and move forward with the next chapter of their respective businesses,” the label said in a statement.

The same statement included words from Crawford, who wished the Houston native “the very best in her life and career.”

In early 2020, the 28-year-old Grammy winner filed a lawsuit against 1501 after inking a deal with JAY-Z‘s Roc Nation the previous year. Court documents claimed the label offered her an “unconscionable” deal below industry standards. The moment when the “Hot Girl Summer” rapper teamed up with Roc Nation was when she finally had “real lawyers” review her 1501 contract, which led her to realize she signed a “crazy” deal. 

As time passed, the Coach brand ambassador filed two more lawsuits due to the pushback she received from 1501. In early 2022, Megan argued that she fulfilled her contractual duties of releasing three albums. However, Crawford’s team countersued due to their claim that Something for Thee Hotties contained only 29 minutes of “original material” despite being close to 45 minutes long.

Several months later, Megan filed another complaint to get over $1 million due to 1501 “systematically” failing to dispense the correct royalties. She claimed the label “wrongfully allowed for excessive marketing and promotion charges.” 1501 denied the allegations and countersued again, calling her lawsuit “baseless.”

As Blavity reported, Megan recently announced that she will self-fund her next album as an independent artist.

“This part of my album is definitely very much funded by Megan Thee Stallion because you know we trying to get off… Y’all know what’s the tea,” she said on Instagram Live.
