Mekhi Phifer Joins Zoe Kravitz In Adaptation Of Best-Selling Sci-Fi YA Novel 'Divergent'


Mekhi Phifer joins Zoe Kravitz to co-star in DivergentSummit/Lionsgate’s adaptation of Veronica Roth’s YA novel of the same name.

Phifer and Kravitz are part of a cast that includes Ray StevensonShailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Maggie Q, Ansel ElgortJai Courtney, Miles Teller, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Ben Lamb, Christian Madsen, and Amy Newbold in a project that’s set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.

Neil Burger (Limitless) is directing an adaptation that is being compared to another Lionsgate property, The Hunger Games.

The original draft of the script was written by Evan Daugherty.

Douglas WickLucy Fisher and Pouya Shahbazian are producing, with principal photography launching today in Chicago.

Summit will release the film theatrically in North America on Friday, March 21, 2014.
