'Men In Black' spinoff film set for 2019, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones not expected to reprise roles

Men In Black spinoff film has been fast-tracked for a 2019 release, reports Deadline.

Right now, Sony is targeting it for May 17, 2019. The untitled film is written by  Matt Holloway and Art Marcum.

Both Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are expected not to surprise their roles. The report states ” Holloway & Marcum have scripted a contemporary sci-fi pic about the black-clad secret force that protects earth from the alien scum of the universe, focusing on new characters chasing villains that put the picture on more of a global scale than the two previous films.”

The spinoff film is being produced by Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald and  Steven Spielberg is executive producer. They are now courting directors.

As the report notes, this project comes as a surprise, at it was anticipated that the next MIB film would be a mash-up with Sony’s 21 Jump Street franchise. That plan is still being developed, but this spinoff is being fast-tracked ahead of it.
