Miami Vice seems to be returning to NBC, courtesy of Vin Diesel’s production company and Fast & The Furious writer, Chris Morgan.

The remake will be written by Peter Macmanus and produced by Universal Television, Chris Morgan Productions and Vin Diesel’s One Race TV. Once Race has a production deal at Universal.

No executive producers have been announced or any cast members.

The original Miami Vice featured starred Don Johnson as James “Sonny” Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs, two Miami officers who worked undercover. It aired from 1984-89.

A 2006 film adaption starred Jamie Fox and Colin Farrell.

Miami Vice would be the latest in a recent boom of 80s/90s television remakes including reboots of S.W.A.T, MacGyver and Dynasty just to name a few — and series continuations like Fuller House, Gilmore Girls and Will & Grace.
