Vertical Entertainment has released the first trailer for the Sundance pic, Miss Juneteenth. 

The film, written and directed by Channing Godfrey Peoples, stars Nicole Beharie, Kendrick Sampson, Alexis Chikaeze, Lori Hayes and Marcus Maudlin. have been snapped up by Vertical Entertainment. The film, which was also set to screen at SXSW, will have a digital release on June 19, the 155th anniversary of the Juneteenth holiday. Earlier reports stated that Vertical also wanted to release it in theaters depending on if Hollywood has reopened by that time.

The logline for the film reads: Turquoise, a former beauty queen turned hardworking single mother, prepares her rebellious teenage daughter for the “Miss Juneteenth” pageant, hoping to keep her from repeating the same mistakes in life that she did. 

Our Sundance review of the film reads: In addition to Beharie’s absolute magnetism, what is unveiled is a stunning mother/daughter tapestry about the sacrifices of motherhood and why dreams, no matter how they shift and evolve, never truly die.”
