A star-studded cast including Uzo Aduba, Vanessa Williams, Amirah Vann, Aunjanue Ellis, and Adina Porter takes center stage in Miss Virginia, coming to select theaters and video on demand October 18.

The R.J. Daniel Hanna-directed film has been acquired by Vertical Entertainment and also features Ethan Herisse, Niles Fitch and Matthew Modine. The film is based on the true story of a woman who ends up changing the lives of children just by fighting for her son’s education. According to the official description: “Unwilling to allow her son to stay in a dangerous school, she launches a new movement that could save his future–and that of thousands like him.”

Erin O’Connor, the writer/producer of the film, said in a statement, “The Miss Virginia team is delighted to partner with Vertical in bringing the inspiring true story of Virginia Walden Ford to audiences across the U.S. Her story is one of grit, determination, and the transformative power of a mother who refuse to give up on her son.”

Along with O’Connor, the film is produced by M. Elizabeth Hughes, Stacey Parks, Maurice Black and Rob Pfaltzgraff.

Aduba can be seen next in the final season of Orange is the New Black on Netflix July 26. Ellis can be seen in When They See Us, now on Netflix.
