“Moonlight” star Trevante Rhodes has booked his next gig; the actor has joined the cast of super producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s Afghanistan War drama, “Horse Soldiers,” which Bruckheimer Films and Black Label Media will produce.

The film is based on a book by Doug Stanton, which follows a U.S. Special Forces team and their captain after they are dispatched to a mountainous region of Afghanistan in the weeks immediately following 9/11, and are given a mission to join forces with a Northern Alliance warlord in order to fight to drive out the Taliban.

Rhodes joins a cast for “Horse Soldiers” that includes Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, and Michael Pena.

Danish director and photojournalist Nicolai Fuglsig is directing the film from a script penned by Peter Craig and Ted Tally.

Lionsgate is handling foreign sales on the project at the American Film Market this month.

Producers are Jerry Bruckheimer, Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill and Thad Luckinbill. The project is Bruckheimer’s first venture into the independent sector. Chad Oman is exec producing.

Rhodes will next be seen playing a supporting role in “Weightless,” the upcoming film by Terrence Malick, starring an ensemble cast including Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Rooney Mara, Cate Blanchett, Val Kilmer, Clifton Collins Jr., Benicio del Toro, and Michael Fassbender. The film is scheduled to be released on March 17, 2017, by Broad Green Pictures.

Rhodes is repped by CAA and manager Carissa Stewart.
