Coming off of the release of Marshall, Reginald Hudlin has set his next project.

He’s directing a Colin Powell biopic which will star Morgan Freeman as Powell!

The film is from Ashok Amritraj’s Hyde Park Entertainment. It will be produced by Amritraj and Lori McCrear. Freeman is also exec producing.

Ed Whitworth wrote the script and it is set during Powell’s tenure as Secretary of State in the George W. Bush administration.

The Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news, writes: “Powell, who went from respected army general to the first African American Secretary of State, initially opposed the United States’ invasion of Iraq, not believing dictator Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. But he capitulated to hawkish voices in the White House and made a now infamous case for war to the United States Security Council. The evidence he presented was later discredited and he has described the event as a low point in his career. The script tells of the lead-up to his UN presentation.”

News of a Powell biopic comes as Tyler Perry will portray the former Secretary of State in another biopic which will center on former Vice President Dick Cheney.
