In Tuesday night’s Naomi, prepare to get a lot more context about Nathan (Daniel Puig) and his background.

While we know he’s the titular character’s (Kaci Walfall) ex/current flame, this episode spends time with him as he and his rival for Naomi’s affections, Anthony, are put in a situation together.

“You definitely see his background is living as an army brat and growing up as one,” Puig said in a recent interview with Shadow and Act. “I think it’s very interesting that his favorite place is Germany and that he’s been around the world. It’s kind of funny that I mention Germany in that scene because that was actually an idea that I had from the beginning because that would make sense for an army brat for his family to be stationed there.”

The actor also has a personal connection to Germany. “I go to Germany all the time because my mom is German and I speak German and all that,” he explained. “So I just loved that they added that in there. In the episode, you’ll really see how he was raised by a soldier and someone who’s around the military background.”

The episode sees a blowup between Nathan and Anthony that requires them to spend more time together. Do they come out of it with a better understanding of each other? Puig remains coy about the matter. “That’s the thing. Sometimes you got to keep your friends close, your enemies closer [laughs]. There is some understanding when it comes to [the] tension between our characters. But at the same time, we want the same girl.”

Naomi is the first major role for the young actor and he doesn’t take for granted that his big debut is in a series regular role on a DC Comics series..on network television…executive produced by Ava DuVernay.

“It’s been amazing and I couldn’t be more grateful. I expected maybe my first big role to be a guest star or a small part in a movie. But I’ve actually never done that, so this was probably the best learning experience I could have had because I was on set a lot over the past six months. It’s just been my school and is going to prepare me for the rest of my life.”

And the big question– Naomi has a lot of suitors, but right now it seems as Nathan has a clear edge.

So, is Nathomi endgame? Though he has an affinity for Naomi and Lourdes, he thinks Nathan and Naomi could be it

“Nathan understands her very well, and Naomi’s feeling Nathan…[laughs] so why not?”

The new episode of Naomi airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. on The CW.
