Another Netflix show has bitten the dust.

Deadline reports that Archive 81, starring Mamoudou Athie and Dina Shihabi has been canceled, shocking fans two months after its Netflix debut. Another shock is that the series was among Netflix’s successful ones, cracking the Netflix weekly Top 10 ratings as well as Nielsen’s top ratings. It was also the number one series on Netflix in America before losing the title to Ozark.

However, Deadline posits that perhaps the series’ overall viewership wasn’t worth it to keep the series going. The outlet wrote that because Netflix is focused on viewing metrics versus cost when it comes to deciding to renew, perhaps the series didn’t have enough of a viewership to outweigh the cost it takes to create and market.

It’s unfortunate since Athie has had a rather solid body of work on Netflix, at least with fans. He recently starred in the film Uncorked and The Get Down (which was also canceled in its first season, despite being popular with its viewers). Also unfortunate is the fact that Netflix has, according to hardcore viewers, a reputation for getting rid of cult classic shows before their time (i.e. Sense8).

With that said, Athie’s star is still rising in Hollywood as he’ll be seen next in Jurassic World Dominion.
