It seems Netflix has decided to scrap its plans for to their 2017’s Bright starring Will Smith.

According to Bloomberg (via Movie Web), the streaming platform has no intention of moving forward with production for Bright 2, which was set to star Academy Award winner Will Smith.

The scrap is not a result of Will Smith's Oscars slap, says the outlet.

Those who have been keeping up with the news lately are fully aware of the controversy that has been surrounding Will Smith recently.

Last month, the actor made headlines after he slapped comedian Chris Rock during the 94th Annual Academy Awards. Since then, Smith has been catching a ton of heat online. He has also been banned from the coveted event for 10 years as a result of his behavior.

While it’s unclear why Netflix decided to scrap its plans for Bright 2, reports state that Smith’s Oscars slap did not contribute to the platform’s decision.

Another Will Smith-led project has also been put on the back-burner.

In addition to Netflix scrapping Bright 2, it has also been revealed that another project Will Smith was set to be a part of has also been abandoned.

Bloomberg reporter Lucas Shaw, recently revealed that a planned nature series from National Geographic, which would have been hosted by Smith, has been put on hold.

“NatGeo has delayed the start of production on its big Will Smith show following the Slap. But it’s still happening,” Shaw said via a recent tweet. “Netflix has also abandoned plans to make a sequel to Bright, but that is unrelated to the incident.”
