Mo’Nique‘s first comedy special for Netflix has been given an official premiere date.

Directed by L. Frazier, the new stand-up special will debut globally on April 4 on the streamer.

Here's a synopsis:

Mo’Nique delivers a career defining, powerhouse stand-up performance in her unprecedented return to the stage. Filled with laugh till you cry stories as well as soul bearing emotion, Mo’Nique promises that by the end of the show you will understand why she is the way she is, and true to form, she delivers. From the mean streets of Baltimore and remembering her Grandma Mimi’s warnings about men, to why she “ACCEPTS” the sometimes-harsh realities that come with life, Mo’Nique with her unique brand of candor, fearlessness, and humor reveals all of herself, and leaves nothing on the table.

The special is coming a few years after Netflix first approached Mo'Nique to do a comedy special.

In 2017, Netflix brought the idea to Mo’Nique to have headline her own stand-up special. However, according to reports, the streamer only wanted to offer the comedian $500,000 for a one-hour set, which she did not agree to.

Mo’Nique went on to file a complaint against Netflix, stating that they were trying to lowball her and were discriminating against Black women, noting that other comedians such as Amy Schumer and Dave Chappelle, both received millions in their contract deals.

Mo'Nique's lawsuit against Netflix has since been settled.

After going on a media tour regarding the incident and filing a lawsuit against the streamer, Mo’Nique and Netflix went to court.

Although Netflix was standing by its initial offer, the judge eventually sided with Mo’Nique.

“At the very least, Mo’Nique’s allegations permit the plausible inference that, had she not challenged her offer as discriminatory, Netflix would have continued negotiating in good faith with her and increased her offer, consistent with its customary practice in dealing with talent in the entertainment industry,” the judge wrote, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The lawsuit has since been settled, with both parties agreeing to dismiss the suit.

In addition to her comedy special, Mo'Nique will also star in the Netflix film 'The Deliverance,' from director Lee Daniels.

In a video released in July 2022, the comedian said, “Hey y’all it’s your girl Mo’Nique and I’m excited to say that I’ll be shooting my first Netflix special; in addition to reuniting with my friend, Director Lee Daniels on the Netflix film The Deliverance.  You won’t want to miss either of them, so stay tuned!  Thank you all and I love y’all to life!”
