New on DVD this week… a film we’ve given a bit of ink to on Shadow and Act (on the old website anyway).
Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench – the feature film debut of director Damien Chazelle; a 16mm black-and-white, verite-style relationship musical drama that follows Guy and Madeline (as the title states), a pair of young lovers in Boston, from the time they separate, through their searches for new romances, and eventually, perhaps find their way back to each other.
“A magical amalgam of Jean-Luc Godard, Miles Davis, Morris Engel and ‘The Umbrellas of Cherbourg.,” said John Anderson of Variety.
The film played the international film festival circuit in 2009, picking up critical acclaim along the way, and is finally getting a home video release, courtesy of Cinema Guild, and you can purchase a copy on DVD via Amazon.com HERE.
I never got a chance to see it, but will eventually, followed by a review on the site.
