New On DVD/Blu-ray Today: "Pariah," "Dark Tide," "Crime After Crime"

3 films that I'm sure need no introduction here on S&A, given how much coverage we've given them over the last 12+ months (the first 2 especially, Dee Rees' Pariah, and Halle Berry's Dark Tide), are now on home video for those of you who haven't seen them yet in the previous formats they were available in, whether theatrical, VOD or TV.

The 3rd film, the documentary Crime After Crime, was a 2011 Sundance Film Festival pickup for Oprah Winfrey's OWN network (it aired last fall), and a scripted feature film adaptation of the work was announced officially in January; though no word on when it can be expected.

Pariah grossed close to $800,000 in box office receipts – a figure that I felt could've been higher, given the universality of the message within the film's narrative. Focus Features' widest release for the film was on just 24 screens simultaneously.

Dark Tide was supposed to have been released in USA theaters on March 30th of this year, but I can find no signs that it ever was. Box Office Mojo lists March 30 as its release date, yet it doesn't show any figures.

But apparently it did well in Russia, grossing over $400,000 there.

And finally, the domestic abuse tale, Crime After Crime, which was also released in a limited number of theaters last fall (in addition to its OWN TV debut) managed $60, 291 in ticket sales.

All 3 films are now available on multiple platforms – DVD, Blu-ray, VOD – so you've got options.
