'New York Undercover' Revival Passed Over At ABC, Universal TV To Shop It Elsewhere

UPDATE: (5/14/2019): Talks to pick up the series are progressing, and it could end up at Fox, the home of the original series. Deadline's Nellie Andreeva writers, "I hear New York Undercover is targeting both broadcast/cable networks and streaming platforms. All talks are still in flux but I hear New York Undercover‘s original network Fox is likely among the outlets approached."

Previously reported: ABC is not pressing forward with the New York Undercover revival. It has been passed over at the network, but the studio it's coming from, Universal Television, plans to shop the Dick Wolf-produced drama elsewhere.

The network also has an NYPD Blue revival for this pilot season, as well as the freshman cop drama The Rookie, which was renewed Friday. It was always a stretch for ABC to have three police shows on at once, and with NYPD Blue likely to go through now, New York Undercover got the short end of the stick.

Alongside Malik Yoba and Luna Lauren Velez, who would reprise their roles as series regulars from the original series, Otmara Marrero and Toby Sandeman are the two leads, and MC Lyte, Anna Enger and Octavio Pizano are series regulars.

The revival would pick up 20 years after the end of the iconic series, following detectives Gilmore (Sandeman) and Ortiz (Marrero) "as they investigate the city's most dangerous criminals, from Harlem to Battery Park."

Despite passing on New York Undercover, ABC, as we reported earlier, renewed its Shondaland TGIT lineup. Bless this Mess, Fresh Off the Boat, American Housewife and Single Parents were also renewed. Canceled shows include For the People, The Fix, The Kids are Alright, Splitting Up Together and Speechless.
