Newcomer Grace Porter will recur in the second season of Godfather of Harlem as Betty Shabazz opposite Nigel Thatch’s Malcolm X.

Here’s the official description for season 2: Season 2 will see Bumpy continue his struggle to reclaim command over Harlem from the Italian mobsters by attempting to seed internal discord and sever their vital heroin pipeline. Meanwhile, Malcolm X will be forced to choose between violent and nonviolent response to the near-constant threats to his life and his relationship with Bumpy will be severely tested.

Season 1 of the show also starred Vincent D’Onofrio, Giancarlo Esposito, Ilfenesh Hadera, Markuann Smith, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Paul Sorvino and Nigél Thatch.

Porter recently graduated from NYU’s Tisch School and her work includes playing Ma Rainey their production of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. On television, she’s appeared in Madam Secretary and Prodigal Son. 

This will be the second portrayal of Shabazz this year, with Joaquina Kalukango playing her opposite Kingsley Ben-Adir’s Malcolm X in One Night in Miami.
