A television adaptation of Nnedi Okorafor’s trilogy, Binti, is in development at Hulu. The streaming service has given a script order for the potential series.

Watchmen and The Morning Show writer Stacy Osei-Kuffour will write the script with Okorafor. The project is set at Michael Ellenberg’s Media Res. He will executive produce the project with Osei-Kuffour and Okorafor.

As The Hollywood Reporter, who first broke this news, says: Binti “tells the story of a brilliant and rebellious young woman who is destined to lead her community in Africa. But when she’s admitted to the most prestigious academy in the galaxy, she chooses a different path and, rejecting her family’s wishes, leaves her community behind in favor of the starry skies.”

Okorafor’s long-gestating Who Fears Death adaptation with George R.R. Martin is in development at HBO. Okorafor, along with Wanuri Kahiu, is also scripting the adaptation of Octavia Butler’s Wild Seed at Amazon. That project is executive produced by Viola Davis.
