Netflix has released the first look at The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

A horror take on the classic Archie comic, the series, which already has a two-season order, will imagine “the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature – half-witch, half-mortal – while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.”

Kiernan Shipka leads the series in the titular role. There are several pivotal black characters: Jaz Sinclair plays Sabrina’s best friend, Rosalind, newcomer Chance Perdomo plays Sabrina’s pansexual warlock cousin, Ambrose and Tati Gabrielle portrays Sabrina’s adversary, the witch Prudence.

Michelle Gomez, Lucy Davis, Miranda Otto, Richard Coyle, and Ross Lynch also star.

Originally set up at The CW as a companion series to Riverdale, Netflix ordered the series, where Deadline initially reported that it received a better offer and would allow its production company, Warner Bros. Television, to have full ownership.
