NVBC 2014: Preview Nijla Mu'min's Mermaid Drama 'Deluge'

Deluge centers on 15-year-old Tiana, who, “after witnessing the mass drowning of her friends and struggling with the decision not to jump in, must decide if she will join the order of black mermaids that protect the waters where her friends rest.”

Inspired by the 2010 mass drowning of six black teens in a Shreveport, Louisiana sinkhole, the short film blends coming-of-age drama and fantasy to explore traumatic memory in a post- BP oil spill New Orleans.

Written and directed by S&A‘s Nijla Mu’min, produced by Jevonne Bowman, and starring Jasmine JohnsonDeluge will have its world premiere at New Voices in Black Cinema Festival on Sunday, March 30
