An update in the investigation into the gun threat at the Surviving R. Kelly screening has pointed to R. Kelly’s stomping ground, Chicago.

According to TMZ, New York police have a person of interest from the Chicago (Kelly’s hometown) 773 area code. TMZ states the police currently aren’t ready to release the name of the man.

The threat during the Surviving R. Kelly screening happened December 4 in New York. Me Too activist Tarana Burke was in attendance as well as several of the women, victims of R. Kelly’s alleged abuse and assault, who took part in the screening.

According to Lifetime in a statement the network released after the threat, it believes the incident “was an intimidation tactic from R. Kelly to further silence these women.” R. Kelly’s ex-wife, Andrea, has also named him as the person behind the threat.

Burke told Shadow and Act she believes the threat was directed at the victims.

“There is no question in my mind that this was a deliberate attempt to intimidate R. Kelly survivors and their supporters,” she said.
