As you can see in the above tweet, published by the “Saturday Night Live” Twitter account, actress Octavia Spencer will host the March 4 episode of show – her very first time doing so! And a good time to host the series because it’s enjoying as good a stretch for SNL as we’ve seen in recent years, in terms of ratings, thanks in large part to our current federal administration led by one Mr. Donald Trump.

The announcement of Spencer’s hosting was actually made late Saturday night during the series’ broadcast this weekend. Although it didn’t come with the naming of a musical guest; that should happen later in the week. Unless it’s a major surprise to be revealed the night that she hosts.

Note that her March 4th hosting date comes after the 89th Academy Awards ceremony which takes place a week before, on February 26. So she very well could be announced as two-time Oscar winning actress Octavia Spencer should she pick up the trophy for Best Supporting Actress again this year for her performance in “Hidden Figures.” Although, by all accounts, the Oscar in that category is Viola Davis’ to lose (for “Fences”), so if any of the other actresses in the category wins, it’ll likely be quite a surprise to most.

But whether or not Spencer wins, she’ll still be hosting SNL the following weekend, kicking off the month of March for the late-night live sketch comedy and variety show.
