The wait is over!

Writer/director/actor Ka’ramuu Kush’s short film And Then…, winner of the 3rd Shadow And Act Black Filmmaker Screenwriting Challenge, made its World Premiere at locations in both Los Angeles and New York City, a month ago.

In LA, the screening, presented by Hollywood Shorts, and hosted by Kimberley Browning, will take place at Dim Mak Studios (formerly CineSpace), 6356 Hollywood BLVD.

In New York, the screening, presented by Creatively Speaking, which is spearheaded by New School faculty member Michelle Materrewill take place at The New School Theresa Lang Student Center, 55 West 13th Street, 2nd floor.

Both were very well attended, I’m pleased to say, and the film was well received, and I certainly hope it’s just as well-attended and received when it finally makes its online debut on this site, next week Wednesday, September 11, 2013. It’ll likely be posted in the morning EST, so you guys will be able to check it out for yourselves – those who weren’t able to attend the LA and NYC screenings.

To recap, And Then… is…

… a “coming of womanhood” story that deals with one woman’s confrontation of issues surrounding body image, communication, and the psychology of sex. The film is about the discovery of feminine power and the healing that follows.

It was co-written by Ka’ramuu and Aisha Hinds, and stars Diandra LyleVanessa Williams (Soul Food) and Ka’ramuu himself, with a score by Prince Damons.

Cheryl L. BedfordSean O’Halloran and Kush are all producers on the project.

An interview with Kush, as well as his starring cast, is forthcoming. And expect other pre-release teases.

So look to next week Wednesday for the film’s online debut.

By the way, for those just joining us, in short, the S&A Films Black Filmmaker Challenge is a contest in which S&A Films (a partnership between myself and Rodney Parnther) funds a short film by a black filmmaker, about black people, based on a script selected from eligible entries. There’ve been 3 of them thus far (Nikyatu Jusu’s Black Swan Theory, Rod Gailes’ Soft Focus, and now Ka’ramuu Kush’s And Then…), with the long-term goal being to eventually start funding feature films.

It’s been a slow but steady journey, as we continue to build on what we’ve learned from past efforts, and shape the challenge accordingly. So those who’ve been asking me about what comes next, thanks for hanging in there.

Ahead of next week’s premiere of And Then…, here’s the film’s trailer again:
