Acclaimed playwright Katori Hall adds to her growing list of directing credits with the video premiere for Uganda native Alan Scoop’s new single, “Sweet Love,” the lead single from his debut album “Preamble.”

A rising star whose unique blend of lover’s rock, afro-pop and soul is finding audiences worldwide, Scoop has this to say about his work: “My music is feel-good music. It’s important to me to create songs that builds bridges and moves the heart.”

The Katori Hall-directed video for “Sweet Love” stars Memphis native Rosalyn Ross as a flight attendant who uses her day-long layover in Memphis to spend time with the love of her life. The couple embark on a fast and furious swing through off-the-beaten path M-town. From a munch down at Westy’s to roller-skating at Crystal Palace to tearing up the floor at Paula & Raiford’s, “Sweet Love” is just as much as a love letter to Memphis as to the one you love.

Hall, also a Memphis native adds: “It’s shot in the vein of a travelogue. And Memphis is a stunning backdrop as we watch these two lovers fall more deeply in love in the city of ‘grit and grind.”

Although this is Hall’s first music video direction, she’s no stranger behind the camera. Hall returns to her hometown after having directed and co- produced her short film “Arkabutla.” Starring Khalil Kain (“Juice,” “The Game”), “Arkabutla” follows a black cowboy and his family on a weekend lake expedition that ends with unexpected consequences. Hall hopes to follow the short with a feature adaptation of her award-winning Memphis-set play “Hurt Village,” which debuted off-Broadway in 2011.

Hall made it her mission to employ an entirely local crew on the project, including Memphis director of photography Ryan Earl Parker, second camera operator Breezy Lucia, and gaffer Andy Allmendinger who all worked on the crew of “Arkabutla.”

“From Glenn Thomas at the airport to Dan Putnam at the Sheraton Hotel to Robin Owens at the Germantown Community Theatre, who provided costumes, to Robert Hollowell, who provided the magnificent car, this video would not have been possible without the help of so many generous Memphians,” Hall said.
