Pose star Hailie Sahar is about to bring the story of entertainer and activist Sir Lady Java to new audiences.

According to Deadline, Sahar will star as Sir Lady Java in an upcoming biopic directed by Genius: Aretha director Anthony Hemingway. Sahar will executive produce via her own Sahar Productions. Hemingway will also executive produce via his Anthony Hemingway Productions, with Tameka “Tiny” Harris via Pretty Hustle and Crossover Entertainment’s Brian Sher.

Sir Lady Java was one of the biggest names before the Stonewall Massacre, performing with Sammy Davis Jr., James Brown, Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx, Lena Horne and others, according to Out Magazine.

Her popularity led to the Los Angeles police to level “Rule Number Nine,” “impersonation by means of costume or dress [of] a person of the opposite sex,” against her. With the help of the ACLU, Sir Lady Java took her case to the California Supreme Court. Her case helped put trans issues in the forefront of mainstream news.
