Category is…..Emmy nominations!

After being unjustly snubbed for years, Mj Rodriguez nabbed an Emmy nomination for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Pose. It is a history-making moment, as Rodriguez is the very first trans woman to be nominated for lead actress and the first trans performer overall to be nominated in a lead category. While Porter has been nominated before, none of the series trans women actors had ever been nominated, including Rodriguez.

For transgender representation, prior to this, Laverne Cox was the very first trans actress to be nominated when she got a not for Oustanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series category for Orange is the New Black in 24. She’d go on to get nominated in 2017, 2019 and 2020 in the same category. Additionally, Rain Valdez received a nomination for actress in a short-form comedy or drama last year.

In total Pose received nine nominations. It was also nominated for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Billy Porter. It almost matches the 11 nominations the show received in its first two seasons combined.
