Producer Datari Turner Signs First-Look Deal with Lionsgate's Codeblack Films

nullModel-turned-producer Datari Turner has signed a deal with Codeblack Films to give the specialty division North American rights to low budget films produced via Datari Turner Productions.

Turner has released roughly a handful of features each year and is known for gritty urban dramas like Sheldon Candis’ drama "LUV" starring Common and "Video Girl" starring Meagan Good, as well as indies like ensemble comedy "It’s A Disaster" and "About Cherry" with James Franco. He’s also produced reality television projects like "I Married A Baller" and Lisa Raye McCoy’s "The Real McCoy" for TV One.

“Datari has quickly established himself as a prolific producer with a keen ability to make powerful films that connect with moviegoers,” said Codeblack President Jeff Clanagan. “The Codeblack family is proud to work with him as part of our goal of empowering filmmakers who create quality movies that showcase diversity for an often underserved multicultural audience.”

Up next, Turner has several projects in various stages of development and production, including a biopic on adult film star Vanessa del Rio, the long-gestating "Lapdance," and Miles Maker’s "Kindred Kill." He can also be seen in a small role in Gina Prince-Bythewood’s "Beyond The Lights."
