'Rap Sh*t': Issa Rae's Miami Rap Group Comedy Nabs HBO Max Series Order, City Girls To Co-Exec Produce

Shadow and Act has learned that HBO Max has given a series order to Rap Sh*t  from Issa Rae. Syreeta Singleton is the executive producer and showrunner and hip hop duo Yung Miami and JT of City Girls are co-executive producing. The series was first announced to be in development in 2019.

The logline: RAP SH*T (wt) follows two estranged high school friends from Miami who reunite to form a rap group. 

The series will be executive produced by Issa Rae and Montrel McKay as well as Jonathan Berry and Dave Becky for 3 Arts Entertainment, along with showrunner Singleton. Rae is writing the pilot.  Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas are also co-exec producing for Quality Control Films, as is Sara Rastogi for HOORAE. Rae’s Raedio will handle music supervision for the series.

Casting is currently underway with production is scheduled to begin this summer. This is just the latest in a series of projects Rae has in development, including many series in different stages of production at HBO.
