HBO Max has announced the three leads for the Rap Sh*t from Syreeta Singleton, Issa Rae and executive producers the City Girls.

Aida Osman will play Shawna, an aspiring rapper that hasn’t seen success and continues to work her day job at a touristy hotel. Osman, the co-host of the Crooked Media podcast Keep It, is also an executive story editor on the show.

KaMillion, a Love & Hip Hop: Miami star known for the song “Twerk 4 Me”, will play Mia, a makeup artist and estranged friend of Shawna’s. She is a single mother to a four-year-old daughter and works three jobs. Jonica Booth of Bad Girls Club  will play Chasity, a “sex work manager” who refers to herself as the “Duke of Miami.”

Syreeta Singleton is the executive producer and showrunner and hip hop duo Yung Miami and JT of City Girls are co-executive producing. The series was first announced to be in development in 2019.

The logline: RAP SH*T (wt) follows two estranged high school friends from Miami, Shawna and Mia, who reunite to form a rap group.

Sadé Clacken Joseph is directing the pilot. The series will be executive produced by Issa Rae and Montrel McKay as well as Jonathan Berry and Dave Becky for 3 Arts Entertainment, along with showrunner Singleton. Rae is writing the pilot.  Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas are also co-exec producing for Quality Control Films, as is Sara Rastogi for HOORAE. Rae’s Raedio will handle music supervision for the series.

This is just the latest in a series of projects Rae has in development, including many series in different stages of production at HBO.
