Shadow and Act has learned that Kid Cudi and BRON Studios are set to produce a film adaptation of the coming-of-age novel, Real Life, written by Brandon Taylor. The author will also pen the script for the film.

Cudi will produce through his recently formed production company, Mad Solar, with Dennis Cummings and Karina Marshall. Cudi would also star in the film. Mad Solar is backed by BRON Studios.

Told over the course of one weekend, Real Life it follows an introverted, queer, Black scientist in a predominantly white, Midwestern PhD program as he navigates complex friendships, romantic relationships, betrayals, and mercies.  The book is published by Riverhead.

Real Life was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and has on several Best Books of 2020 lists including the New York Times, BBC, NPR, the Washington Post, The Guardian, Vulture, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and Financial Times.

Kevin Turen will produce on behalf of BRON, while BRON’s chairman Aaron L. Gilbert, is an executive producer.
