How These Gen Z Influencers Are Using Their Voices To Impact The World

December 03 2019

The next generation of changemakers are shaking up the world. Through their innovative ideas and technology-driven creations, Gen Z is offering talents in fresh, creative ways to make the world a better place, and inspiring others to do the same.

With the Refresh Your Voice campaign, Coca-Cola is highlighting the next generation of influencers and how they use their voice to impact lives.

In the video below, Gen Z activists, share their perspectives on how they’re changing the status quo and are using their talents to pave the way for a brighter future.

Mental health advocate and entrepreneur, Demetrius Harmon, teamed up with creators of the NotOK app, Hannah and Charlie Lucas, to talk about how they’re addressing mental health and wellness for Gen Zers. The Lucas siblings explain why they created their app as a mental health resource when they’re “NotOK”.

Hannah came up with the idea to create the app as a resource for her illness, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). POTS causes dizziness, fainting spells or bouts of brain fog, according to WebMD. Her intention for creating the app was to alert her loved ones of her location at all times and when/if she needed help, while her brother Charlie built the app itself.

Harmon speaks on why he uses his platform to provide a safe space for those who are struggling with issues like depression and anxiety. He also said he’s impacting his community by using his platform to normalize what it means to be human, emotions and all. He does this by being open about when he’s not feeling the best and the coping mechanisms he uses to uplift his spirits.

All three activists share thoughts about why it’s essential to debunk the stigmas about mental health and why emotions and vulnerability should be normalized despite the opposite of what society portrays. Doing so can open the space for people to feel comfortable in addressing issues that are rarely spoken about when it comes to mental health.

These influencers want us all to use our talents and take action to make the world a better place. There’s no better time to get involved, refresh your voice and be a part of the change in which you believe.
