The Murphys in HBO's "Leftovers"
The Murphys in HBO’s “Leftovers”

Season 2 of HBO’s “The Leftovers” (which ended in December of last year) added Regina King, Kevin Carroll, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Jovan Adepo to its cast, as the Garveys were joined by a new family, the Murphys, clan of four who seemed to have been spared from the event that shook the rest of the world.

For the initiated, the series follows a global cataclysm called “The Sudden Departure,” when 140 million people disappeared without a trace. Three years later, residents of Mapleton, N.Y. try to maintain equilibrium when the notion of “normal” no longer applies. Intense grief has divided families and turned faith to cynicism, paranoia and madness, leading some of the traumatized to join the Guilty Remnant, which is a cult-like group. Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux), a beleaguered police chief, must keep peace between townspeople and the cult, a task made tougher with concern about his kids.

Season 2 found many searching for a fresh start, as the Garvey family relocated to Texas – wife Nora Durst (Carrie Coon), and daughter Jill (Margaret Qualley). Upon their arrival in Jarden, Texas, they meet their neighbors, the Murphys: John (Kevin Carroll) and Erika (Regina King), and their teenage twins, Evie (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Michael (Jovan Adepo).

That’s your set-up for the ten-episode second season which run from October 4, 2015 to December 6, 2015.

HBO renewed the critically-acclaimed series for a 3rd season, and, announced earlier today, the entire ensemble cast is returning – including all 4 members of the Murphy family – Regina King, Kevin Carroll, Jovan Adepo and Jasmin Savoy-Brown.

Not much else has been revealed publicly about season 3, specifically story and eventual premiere date. Although the 3rd season will be the series’ final one.

This is a show that’s been on my to-watch binge-watch list which continues to grow… and grow… and grow. I’ll get to it eventually – before season 3 arrives.
