Even though Emily Blunt is now Disney’s new Mary Poppins, the studio didn’t give her a practically perfect paycheck for her upcoming Disney film with Dwayne Johnson, Jungle Cruise.

According to TMZ, Johnson is getting paid $22 million for Jungle Cruise as opposed to Blunt’s $9 million for the same co-star billing. That’s a difference of $13 million for the same movie. After seeing what Johnson made, Blunt might need a spoonful of sugar to make the news about her salary go down.

Of course, “conventional” Hollywood wisdom states that Blunt would get paid less because Johnson’s the “bigger star” and “bigger box office draw.” But is he that much more popular than Blunt? As already mentioned, Blunt is none other than Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins Returns. Also, she’s done her time in Hollywood, starring in several of the biggest films in the past few years, including A Quiet Place, Sicario, Edge of Tomorrow, Into the Woods and The Devil Wears Prada. With so many diverse films under her belt, Blunt has proven that she can do comedy and action just as well as Johnson can.

It’s also not Blunt’s first time working with Disney; both she and Johnson have made one film apiece with Disney, Into the Woods (Blunt) and Moana (Johnson). With this type of resume, one would think that Blunt would easily get paid the same as Johnson.

This just marks another instance when sexism rears its ugly head in Hollywood in terms of pay raises. We’ll see how Disney responds to this news being made public (and if they’ll properly compensate her for her talents).

Jungle Cruise comes to theaters July 24, 2020.
