The image, which was posted on MGM’s Instagram page, shows Hudson and her co-star Marlon Wayans in character as their respective roles of Aretha Franklin and Ted White, her first husband. The biopic, directed by Liesl Tommy and written by Tracey Scott Wilson, will chronicle the life of Frankin, dubbed by many as “The Queen Of Soul.”

Hudson is no stranger to musical stories. The American Idol alum portrayed Effie White in the 2006 musical film Dreamgirls. Hudson’s performance, her motion picture debut, won her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2007.

Respect will premiere in theaters on October 9.
