For much of Season 6 of The Real Housewives of Potomac, Chris Bassett was under much scrutiny for managing Candiace Dillard Bassett’s budding music and acting career. The chef by trade was viewed as riding Candiace’s coattails by her co-stars and her opinionated mother. Chris says he sold his half of his D.C. barbeque restaurant amid the coronavirus pandemic. He began conducting online cooking classes and catering for additional income while managing Candiace’s schedule.

The perception of Chris being a leech of sorts was further complicated after part four of the reunion special. Co-host Nicki Minaj asked Candiace to sing to prove her talent. Candiace was initially hesitant but did so anyway. Chris however, didn’t like Minaj’s “line of questioning” and later said on social media that he felt Minaj was being shady. Viewers disagreed and felt his interjection at the reunion was out of place. Now, Candiace is speaking on her husband’s behalf.
